All appointments are currently for individual therapy appointments ages 12 years and up. Individual therapy appointments mean that you will have your appointment one-on-one with our therapist when discussing whatever topics you are trying to discuss.

Relationship counseling, couples counseling, or marriage therapy appointments are designed for those in a partnership where a therapist would help the couple navigate issues that are preventing a productive and happy home life. At this point in time, we do not offer couples counseling but focus on mental health services and counseling for depression and anxiety.

What…?

..is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy sounds a bit daunting starting with the word starting with psycho but it is referring to the field of psychology rather than any other implication. Psychotherapy is, according to the oxford dictionary where treatment for “mental conditions by verbal communication and interaction.”

..if I wanted to see you for DBT or a different therapy type besides psychotherapy?

DBT and other therapies that are done via speaking with the therapist are all different types of Psychotherapy. If you ask for one type, we’re not tricking you into another therapy type. Just how things are coded and organized.

..should I expect at an appointment?

Seeing a therapist for the first time can be an uncomfortable experience for many. Your therapist will spend most of the first session telling you about themself and learning about who you are and what your needs are in therapy. Your therapist will never pressure you to talk about anything you are uncomfortable discussing. What is said between a therapist and client is confidential and has many of the same protections that afforded between patients and other medical providers.

..do I need to do? Should I have something prepared?

For the first appointment you should bring your health insurance card and a debit/ credit card if you are paying for services out of pocket or have a copay to cover. For subsequent appointments your therapist may assign you homework or journaling to prepare for the following time you meet.
