Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
(DBT)

DBT stands for Dialectical Behavior Therapy. The word “dialectical” means “opposites” or “opposing force.” This means that the primary goal of this form of therapy is to seek balance between the different forces in our lives, such as our push to change and improve ourselves and the need to accept ourselves the way we are. Working with a dialectical behavior therapy counselor, individuals can learn skills to manage emotions and relationships that cause suffering. DBT has been found to help people dealing with trauma, feelings of emptiness, stressful relationships, self-harm, and many other problems.
